Design

Our process began with a traffic of ideas. We were first interested in making pavements and walkways more accessible to people with limited mobility. However, as we continued our research into this area, we came across the idea of making playgrounds more easily accessible for children with disabilities, as it was an realm that had not been explored as much.

As we drove deeper into possible solutions to making a more accessible playground structure, we found ourselves inspired by the classic carnival racing games...

Current Solutions

Many current solutions needed required heavy adult aid to get in and out of the equipment, and were often very isolating as a result

Sketch and Design

From our inspirations, we then sketched out a first draft of our solution, which we initially coined as "Car Racer", where kids of all abilities could race mini car pieces around a track

Feedback

We then proposed our solution to our "clients" at an elementary school in Brooklyn and received the green-light to continue

Design Goals

Minimizing Adult Aid

In our design, kids using wheelchairs no longer need to move themselves in and out of their wheel-chairs, which often requires heavy adult aid. Instead, they can simply roll up a ramp and back themselves into the structure and they'll be all set to go
